The Oldies Thread

My Dad was in the Fire Service during the blitz. He was stationed locally in Abingdon Road. The fire station building was next to Florence Melly school.

Yes I attended Flo Melly from 1962, that part of Walton was a nice place to grow up then.

Sadly, It went quickly downhill in the late 70's.
 
To be fair, a lot of them were racist, sexist and homophobic. Enjoyed them at the time though. It can be unfair to judge a past era with present attitudes though.

Very true, I wince when watching them now.

We all live in very different times, and in lot's of way's far more tolerant.

The pendulum may have swung too far in the other direction I think.

Still love, Steptoe and Son, some fantastic Cockney rhyming Slang.
 
I have certainly grown and changed as a person but it's easy to get called for slights that simply weren't there at times. People getting offended on other people's behalf etc.
 
I sometimes wonder at what is currently perfectly normal behaviour today, will be seen as bad in 30 years time. Burning fuel to drive things maybe?
Absolutely! Times change, people change. We can just try to be the best people we can be and try not to harm as few people and as few things as we can in the meantime.
