The Oldies Thread

Outside of bridge clubs...who probably take it all a bit too seriously

Nobody seems to play cards anymore*

*I don't class 'Uno'...(or as its should be called, 'miss a go grandad' - by the little cheats I play with) as proper cards, or top trumps for that matter
I love a game of cards. My Dad taught me Nap, 3 card brag, Pontoon and Crib, all played with a little side bet to make it interesting. Sadly my efforts to get the grandchildren interested have proved fruitless. Shame really, I was hoping to get my hands on the little blighters’ pocket money. lol

I havnt had a jab since I was a child.

Now, I had one last Autumn for flu, and the first covid one next Saturday. Sake.

Good job you never had to do National Service roydo. Second week in, marched down to medical centre for 6 injections. Excused duties that evening, then up again at 5.30am next morning. (Our sergeant had his own 'alarm clock'. He had a pickaxe handle and used to bring it down on the metal bed frame about a foot from your head.)
If you were posted abroad there were another several injections to be had.

I love a game of Euchre. But can’t find anyone else who can play it these days.

there is a download available called "hardwood euchre" which is ok - need to register and possibly pay (?) if you want more than a basic challenge. I almost always beat the computer 10 - 1 or 2, but is god fun. No "Benny" though if you are used to playing with the 2 of spades as top trump. a few other games available on the same site, but again a poor level unless you go deeper. Online playing is there as well

I thought you’d had a Covid jab....

Not yet. Booked into the GP surgery next Saturday. Could have had one a week or so ago, but that meant having to drive into Bristol and go to the mass vax site at Ashton Gate. Me leaving our covid free bubble to spend time in Bristol freaked Nikki a bit, so GP said they would tack me onto their next one.

Is Dominoes still a thing that’s widespread around Liverpool pubs? Used to be Dominoes leagues like Darts leagues around the London area although hardly at all now. I was on a 4 day walk in the Yorkshire Dales few years ago, got lost one day and arrived late at my overnight stop (local pub). Got shown my room and told in no uncertain terms that if I was eating in the restaurant to do it quietly as it was “Bones Night”. Full house of good old Yorkshire farmers slamming the tables for a couple of hours. Good night.
