Again though, we're not in a relegation fight.

Making out we are, is the complete opposite of this;

The players aren't idiots either, they know we're not going down.

It's not about complacency, the players aren't idiots either, they know we're not going down.

You can guard against complacency by aiming up. Half the squad are playing for their contract or next move anyway.
It doesn't mean complacency in regards to a relegation fight, rather in terms of as a club in general and the run we are on.

The narrative around relegation is in regards to making sure we aren't talking about being in a relegation fight and we are talking about making sure we win games and move up the table.

Think you've misunderstood my words.

He's making sure that we are being sensible. Understand that we aren't the best team in the world and he took over a club that was at the bottom end of the table and at risk of being relegated, but that we are better than that, will be better than that and his goal is to be better than that.

Just feels like you want something to snipe at Moyes about really.

You keep saying it's sensible - when does worrying and talking about relegation stop?

Now?

40 points?

August?

Never?

You're conflating what Moyes tells the media and what he really thinks.

When we're talking perception - as we are - what he tells the media is what really matters.

So the question is - you keep saying it's sensible to keep banging on about relegation - so when is it sensible to stop worrying and talking about relegation?

If Moyes say he will finish top half, then he doesn’t, for any reason, even if he’s not given the funds he was promised, he will snipe at him for that.

Moyes can’t win whatever he does to some people.

It's your perception that he's banging on about relegation. It's my perception that he's talking about it in a sensible manner because he's pushing the narrative, in my perception, more so in favour of us moving up and us being a big club. I don't think he's worrying about relegation now. The article that you've posted suggests his worry was before he joined the club, not now. He said we're not safe yet (which is mathematically true) but doesn't suggest he's still *worried* about it. Again, in my perception.

I think next season we won't hear that stuff. It will be a thing of last season if discussed, rather than the present or future.

Never.... there is always a point deduction waiting round the corner ;)

Haha indeed.

For what it's worth, it probably is 'Never' for Moyes, who will do what he's always done - which is;

He’s always been like that when talking about expectations hasn’t he?

Even in the years we knew we’d be challenging for European places his m.o when asked was always “get to 40 points first and see where we are from there”.

To be fair, he's entitled to dine out on it - well done Moyes. But at some point, it becomes counter productive - especially given our last 5 or so years, perception around that, and the need for a lot of signings, when is that point?

Will have to disagree mate.

This is what I want our manager to start acting like;

We've got to shift mentality and perceptions around the club - "40 points first doesn't help.

We'll see.
