The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

40 points has always been said to be the relegation magic number.. This needs to be revised downwards. A situation looks to be developing where the 3 teams that come up will go straight back down with 3rd from bottom having a points total in the mid 20s to low 30s..

It certainly does. I've just had a quick look, and it's only once in the last 20 seasons a points tally as high as 40 was required to stay up - that was Wolves in 2010/2011 who finished 17th on 40 points, 1 point ahead of Birmingham.

The average in that time was 35 points.

West ham got relegated on 42 points 2003... That's nearly closer to Europe now than the bottom 3.

Almost zero percent chance of relegation.

It's been Wolves and Ipswich, and I think Wolves will just about have enough if Cunha stays fit

Neither of them are overturning the points gap to United or West Ham, sadly
Yeah as amusing as West Ham and Man Utd in a relegation fight would be ultimately they only need a win or two plus a few draws out of the remaining 13 games to be comfortably safe. I suspect 32/34 points will be enough for safety this season, maybe even less than that.
Of the two I expect Wolves to stay up, they've had their second tough run of fixtures so their run in to the end of the season is slightly easier than Ipswich. Leicester look doomed, RVN was a very poor appointment and Southampton may get more than Derby but will go down as one of the worst prem sides ever.

I want Wolves and Leicester to go down, not only cos they're located in two of the most horrible parts of the country and I feel sorry for our fans needing to travel there, but because they'll be in big trouble - especially Leicester - financially if they go down. About time somebody else apart from Everton gets made an example of.
Maybe we could think about sueing them.....ha ha
