The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Make some good points here mate.
Well, I'm stretching slightly, to be fair, but I have been struck by how calm Moyes has been - almost detached. I like this version of Moyes, in many ways, quite Zen. But a bit of blood and thunder on Saturday was required to put manners on VAR. He seemed non-plussed. I wondered if his heart just wasn't in it. And it wouldn't be, really, if you knew you were only doing a stint in the short-term.

But, hey, who knows. I just expected more fireworks from the Friedkins given their Roma history - and more passion from Moyes given his Everton history. It's all been a bit cool, calm, and collected - suspiciously so. Nothing to complain about, of course. Moyes has worked the oracle. It all just seems sedate...

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but:
  • The club hasn't officially revealed the length of Moyes's contract (correct me if I'm wrong)
  • No serious spending was conducted in January despite injuries and squad size issues
  • Moyes showed little anger at the daylight robbery he was victim of on Saturday
  • Moyes has yet to visit the new stadium
While he's probably here for the duration, the signs will have been hiding in plain sight if he does indeed depart come summer...
I was quite surprised how relaxed he was in the press conference when being asked about the utd penalty

As you said, you'd imagine him to be here beyond the summer but the signs would be there.

It would be surprise me but stranger things have happened.

Probably because he knew it wouldn't make a tinker's difference and mouthing off in a press conference would only be detrimental. The club has apparently approached the PGMOL over the issue; doing so privately would go over better than spitting the dummy out in the media. Not by much, mind, but why give them reason to screw us over more than they already are?

You’re saying we’re not in a relegation fight. We could easily go on a run and lose about 6 games on the bounce especially when we play Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea on the bounce. Don’t count any chickens yet.

We could lose them all and we'll still not in a relegation scrap.

If the Premier League removed every point we've earned under Moyes so far, we'd still not be in the bottom 3.

We're 14 points clear on teams who have managed 17 points all season.

Moyes will have us nowhere near a relegation battle next season.

Dyche would’ve made sure we were in one, and would’ve talked about it all summer to make sure we were fully aware that 17th was the best we could hope for, just like he did from day 1 of pre season last year. Levels.
*Geordie accent* ‘Day 47 in the GOT house. Michael is talking about Sean Dyche, again’

We could but to get close to where we currently are, Ipswich or Leicester would have to double their points tally from the first 26 games in the last 12 and I don’t see the signs, they’re getting worse if anything. That’s if we lose 12 in a row too, not just 6.

Moyes said he’ll visit the stadium once safety is confirmed.

Who do Ipswich and Leicester play in April mate, have you checked this?
