Indeed, and of course it says everything about the sad state of classical knowledge in the UK nowadays that he was able to make that analogy without being laughed at. Cincinnatus was the exemplar of the "good noble" - the man who ruled fairly, didn't enrich himself or his followers from the state's coffers and who worked hard in (relatively) manual labour before and after his rule.

There are very few people in Roman history less like Johnson than he; literally the only thing the two beings have in common is that they are both male.

As an aside, if we are looking at classical era politicians most like Johnson then here are my three:

Demosthenes
P. Clodius
Bibulus

Very harsh on Demosthenes, who had a brilliant intellect, was a powerful and persuasive orator, sought to prevent the aggression of Philip and then Alexander of Macedon towards Athens, and ultimately took his own life rather than be captured by Alexander's forces.

bj does not strike me as brilliant intellectually, persuasive in his blubbering, nor courageous in resisting bullies.

Haha he’ll be gutted that he wasn’t the Prime Minister when the queen died. It would’ve been his big moment ???
It's a delicious piece of karma, isn't it? Johnson would have wallowed in the limelight like the porcine excrement-loving abomination he is. And Truss is probably cursing the Queen for popping off before she can even get her feet under the table. She's under pressure to rise to the occasion now - and Johnson has missed his bus. Wonderful.
