I think you will be surprised. May and Major were nonentities, Thatcher had some really serious Conservatives going against her to bring her down. Todays politicians are just lightweights, Boris will be fine…..

Boris has been given a justifiable kicking, some regarding Partygate, a lot because of no tax reduction, some because he needs to be braver in respect of the EU, and some because they have been sidelined or are rabid Remainers.
