Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

Pete, he is the prime minister, his job is to mange the government. That means the NHS, HMRC, the borders, the armed forces... if he can't keep track of what happens in the building where he lives and the rules he writes why should we trust him to do anything else?

His job is to manage a cabinet. The job of the cabinet is to manage everything you mentioned. Do I think he arsed this up ? Yes, but in the bigger scheme of things it’s a non-event…although Boris hating people will try to take some moral high ground……

It is in some respects. However it not like Boris invited everyone around to his house for a booze up. No. 10 is a massive building housing lots of civil servants who had to be there, on the job, and not working from home. They were for nearly two years a COVID bubble. They worked hard and then Boris was caught by a surprise birthday cake and a glass of wine at the end of the day in his garden. And I’ll bet that many on here had a drink with a friend or two, had drinks after a board meeting, or met in a garden. The hyperventilating going on is purely because it was Boris. No one said a word when Starmer was pictured doing similar. But Boris had to deal with Brexit, COVID, Russia and Ukraine, while Starmer has been dealing with a glass of wine and a piece of cheese……
The prime minister broke the law by attending a party and lied to parliament about it.

You either have standards and ethics or you don’t, you are excusing a man who clearly has neither and this is a very slippery slope not expecting him to resign.

You know how ministerial accountability works and where it stops, right?

Not really a nonevent though is it. Thousands of people, unfortunately including myself, had to suffer with losing loved ones with nobody around them. Yet here you are justifying the tit doing as he pleased while people made the ultimate sacrifices. Scum.

Also, the government won't meet to discuss the gassing of civilians because they might face public criticism for this. How is that leadership?

Please, just get a life, some of you guys. The rules were made to achieve a certain outcome, which was not to act like complete puddings and spread infection by closely cosying up. The numbers and distances were conservative, so that people didn't get together, have a few jars, and then start hugging and whatnot. None of that went on with the government, as far as I know. I'd happily have got together with mates on the quiet as long as I was sure they weren't stupid enough to be hugging and standing in large, close, groups. Equally as a manager of a small team before I retired, if I thought I could bend the rules to give them a good social evening, with minimal risk of infection, then I'd certainly have done so. If I'd have done it, I certainly can't condemn anyone else for the same thing . Nobody died from this, yanno.
