Of course the real reason the Empire fell was because of many decades of incompetent rule - which resulted in needless civil wars, self-created economic damage and most of the population gradually becoming poorer. Perhaps that was a little too close to home?

That said, I’ve seen some commentators claiming that the Dark Ages bit is wrong as well, which is one of the more annoying bits of historical revisionism (especially when talking about the Dark Ages here in Britain).
