Chris Rea was a decent guy. Bernie Wenton (Won Stars in their eyes as Nat King Cole) and his brother Willy, were backing singers for Chris. They toured with him and appeared in a number of his videos. One time, years later, when Chris was playing in Liverpool, a note was passed to him telling him that Bernie Wenton was in a serious way (Cancer) After the show Chris made his way to Bernie's house and spent the night sitting with him and chatting over old memories. Bernie passed away a few days later.

R.I.P Chris, rest well.

I got a Caterham the same year Auberge came out, so bought the album for obvious reasons. I had never even heard of Chris then.
Since then i have grown to like his music and him as a person.
Mates who've met him in the paddock say he was a gem and a true petrolhead and good racer.
Gutted to hear this. End of an era.

Sad to see Chris Rea go, 'Steel City' is excellent both in the slower and fast versions. His greatest hits :New Light album did not have a bad track on it.
