The New(ly) Dead Thread

Same here mate, wet food only for ours, no kibble or dried stuff - if people looked at the ingredients ( fat and salt ) they wouldn`t be feeding it to their dogs.

It`s like a dog living off McDonalds it`s whole life and expecting it to be healthy.

Saturated and clever advertising, brain washes people into believing that all that crap is good for your dog.
Exactly, dogs are omnivores, it's easy to do a bit of study and see what to feed them, the likes of Purina are poisoning pets not feeding them

Its a tricky one because grain free diets are now one of the biggest causes of heart failure in dogs, they're no longer the wild animals we had hundreds of years ago. There are quality kibble out there but they're very expensive which of course leads to owners giving their dogs the McDonald's equivalent. Balance is always the key.

As for Hamiltons dog, I'd spend every penny I had in the world (and have done) for anything my dog needed, until it told me it didnt want to go on anymore. They let you know. I hope Lewis is doing as best he can.

Only my opinion, but I did a lot of reading about dogs getting spayed before I made a decision about getting ours done and a lot of vets believe that all the junk that dogs are eating, is leading to ovarian cancers and unnecessary spaying of dogs.

Ours is nine, hasn’t been done and hasn’t been to the vet for anything.

Microplastics mate. Look at the rise in bowel cancers in younger people. The way all food is processed now, its no wonder.

In saying that, I was recommended to get my girls spaded to avoid cancer troubles later in life in that area. There's all sorts of trouble no matter what you do these days.

My staffie is due to be spayed next week. Both our last two girl dogs were spayed, primarily to not get pregnant, and secondly for this reason.

Should always be for the pet. They’ve given you companionship (& love unless they’re a cat) so it’s only right to return the favour at the end of their life.

Vetting has become big - and very profitable - buisiness on the back of “procedures” . Any excuse to X-ray, CT scan etc. Vets are taking the pee
Yep. With all the problems with antimicrobial resistance a vet tried to upsell me antibiotics for a tick that was dead and had not affected my dog one bit.
My cat is 17 and the vet tried to sell me a tbyroid treatment that would have meant radiation and eight weeks away for him, imagine how stressed he would be. It is treated with a daily pill. Vets are given targets in £££ which is wholly wrong. We know they have to make a living but animal wellbeing should be a primary aim. I am sure it was when they took it up.

Well done to your vet BUT how often do you hear of people spending £000s (driven by pet insurance) on very invasive surgery when it would have been kinder to the animal to have said Goodnight ?

Easier said than done. We spent thousands on one of our cats to try and fix an issue with his teeth. He was in perfect health otherwise, but after a few procedures he just gradually stopped eating and we had to make a call, which was devastating to us. He wasn't a sick cat in any other respect and would have been capable of having a healthy, happy life so we felt we had to try everything to make that possible. I believe it would have been flippant and cruel to have him put to sleep when the problem was first diagnosed. It's never an easy decision, and certainly not a selfish one

Next door died from oesophageal earlier this year (he was nearly 88) was only diagnosed September/October last year (this specific type only goes to stage 3, it becomes stage 4 when it spreads). Went into hospital with 'no recovery form' signed.
Found out a couple of days ago lady on the other next door (83) has significant bowel type, refuse to operate and put her on a (colostomy) bag due to her age, so she's currently visiting the Christie 5 days a week doing chemo and radio. Long road ahead hopefully.
Grim.
