The "new handball law".

Nail on the head mate, The match going fan hasn't asked or been asked if they want VAR if they done a survey now I confidentially predict 80% plus would prefer the referee and his assistants to make the decisions.
Sky sports have ruined what use to be the working man/womans game.

It‘s not just handballs though. Watch the sky clip of City v Leicester. Vardy has perfected the art of jumping into a defender in the box and falling over. Defenders will start falling over next to beat it. The game is screwed......

It’s stupid. On the flip side though, players got away with stiff arm handballs and get the excuse of ‘unintentional handball’ which I also think is a joke. Players need to be taught to keep their arms closer to their body. Maybe this is an attempt to do that. Just wish it wasn’t so extreme

Me and @ste d' indica were just discussing diving. Offenders should be made to play the next game in a frilly leotard. Would eradicate it over night.

I’m fine with it. Hits your hand = penalty regardless of intent.

I’m happy football is finally getting rid of interpretation and making things clear cut, it’s ridiculous that the biggest sport in the world has been officiated in such a sloppy and unprofessinal manor for so many years despite obvious solutions having existed for yonks.

Now they just need to stop having refs keep track of added time and instead have the on screen clock stop when the ball is out of play, game ends on 90 minutes without fail.
Stoppage time needs to go but for me I'd not stop the clock every time it goes out. Rather I'd do it only for the things that are supposed to be added back in right now which are injuries, subs and excessively long delays such as time wasting. Let it run on the average throw.

Why's his arm there? He's making himself bigger to block the ball and has been rightly punished.
I don't think that is the reason his arm is there. It is there because he is in the middle of a jump and using his arms for leverage the same as every other player in the world does. There is absolutely no way that should have been a penalty (and either should ours against Palace), but as long as the law is applied consistently, and it seems it is being, then I don't have too many issues with it

What I can't get my head round is, if its the other end of the pitch i.e an attacker does it and not a defender (Kai Havertz for Chelsea for example!) its not a even deemed a foul because its accidental? What's that all about?

Or how about the referee watches the replay and uses common sense?

I dont trust referees mate - we've moaned for years about consistency and when we get it we moan that the refs need more discretion!!

All these relaxation rules does is give the refs the excuse to not give these calls against your media darling clubs - its still a pen if the ball touches your hand in the box the refs just now have power to award it or not which I think stinks.

Its either one or the other for me - all handballs are pens or just intentional looking ones.

Yes relaxed = we'll give them only for the top 6 clubs.

Even under the relaxation it still means Diers penalty was still a penalty for Newcastle so for me either keep it the same or go back to deliberate only.
This one always confused me. Deliberate only? Who deliberately handles? Should that be a red?

These guys are pros, and until this year perfected the art of making themselves bigger and getting close to a shot then being able to act like their hand was just in the way accidentally. The bottom line is that accidental or not, you can't have your arm 2 feet from your side - that's putting yourself into a position to get a lucky deflection, and if your arm was at your side, you wouldn't have deflected it.

Personally, I like the rule going more in the direction it's gone this year than it was. Taking my logic to the Palace game, DCL wasn't a handball b/c his hand was essentially on his thigh. The Palace guy stopped a ball from being put right in front of Richy, and his hand was at least a foot and a half from his body

Noticed today Gylfi making a concerted effort to have his hands behind his back when defending in the box. It took 3 whole weeks for guys to adjust. Bruce, Hodgson, Lineker and all the rest are utter tits and shame on the Match Officials Group for backing down.
