I would rest Barkley , and play Mirallis in the floating role behind Lukaku - using Magreedy on the right, and use the Spanish kid as a sub into the game - that attacking formation should add the pace we need upfront!

The number of situations we have where we have a midfielder in a situation to shoot and they take an extra pass wide when it just needs someone to "put their foot through it" is so bloody frustrating,an example was Pienaar second half yesterday,we had worked a great situation in the box,and he plays it wide to Mirallas I think it was,its as if we're trying to create the perfect goal,Peter Beagrie would love it in this team!!!

We need time.

Strikers yes, but just as equally we need more time to implement the Martinez ideas. It's a patient style, makes us look boss, and is far better to watch for us fans than anything the last 10 years has given us. We need to remember though that it's such a massive shift in terms of style that it could easily take us another season at least to begin to perfect the tactics.

In that time we will inevitably replace players not as suited with ones more, but the performance yesterday at Stamford bridge left me proud to be an evertonian. I like Naismith but he's not a natural number nine, but we've seen he's probably the most natural finisher in the side which is why he's starting games there in the absence of the front two.

Patience I think is the word. I'm not saying that poor performances should just be accepted, but yesterday was anything but poor. As I say though, with the white haired scot up there trying valiantly against terry and Cahill it was a predictable result.

6th, and likely Europa, is certainly achievable and would represent genuine progress for us.

This all day long. I think long term we might see a switch to more of a 4-3-3 with Barkley breaking from deeper, allowing two wide attacking players cutting in to add numbers to tha attack with fullbacks having even more space to overlap.

6th will be tough. United will go on a run.

I know its probably been asked 100 times but what do we need for 7th to get Europa?

Probably Citeh to win both the COC cup and FA cup or Arsenal win FA cup as long as both finish in the top four?Second option won't happen,"We're on the march with Bobbys army"!!!

We don't great the chances that our possession merits. The first half against Arsenal away was one our best performances of the season. However we didn't create that many clear cut opportunities.

To be fair, nether Tottenham or Chelsea created many clear cut chances against us. Midfielders and strikers who are capable of opening up top sides will cost a lot. Hopefully Barkley can develop into that player.

You also need a perfect blend between your strikers and your midfield. I think Lukuaku would suit a more counter attacking side, so he can hang on the shoulder of the last defender. We are never going to play like that under Martinez.

Liverpool have the perfect strikers for counter attacking football. I don't know what strikers would fit our passing style.

Good post and agree completely with the bolded part. As much as I would like us to keep Lukaku, I'm not sure if he'd be a good fit long term for the style of football Martinez likes. A striker that could play as a false 9, a less inconsistent Mirallas, a more mature Barkley and someone more effective that Pienaar. Pienaar keeps possession better than most of our other attacking players, but that's not good enough if we want to progress to the next level. He just doesn't produce enough key passes, assists, goals.

Defensively we're good enough to challenge, but for how long? Howard (is Joel the answer? hopefully he'll get more playing time over the next season so we can tell whether he's the man or not), Distin, Barry, even Jags don't have many seasons left in them. Howard and Barry, if he stays, should be good enough for at least 1 more season, and Gibson will hopefully be fit to play from time to time! As for Distin I think this Summer should be the time we bring in a young centre back like Martins Indi.

But yeah, attack is the priority. I think someone like Lavezzi would be a perfect striker for our system. A number 10 to start phasing Osman out. A replacement for Pienaar, even if we keep Deulofeu for another season. I would like to see us play Barkley a bit deeper, him and McCarthy behind a new number 10 could be quite good to watch if Barkley's work rate improves.

One thing is for sure, we will need to spend all of the money we have "saved" from the past few windows... and more. Extremely unlikely given our recent history but at least we will very likely have some very big deals fall through on the last day, or some takeover rumour, or possible new stadium plans to get us excited.

I said this to my Grandad today, who went on about how we can't because we aren't like that, well isn't it about time we were, nice guys finish last or seventh in our case.

Exactly that.

When Baines dived a bit earlier this season I honestly wasn't too bothered.

Not that I agree with diving at all, but if other teams are gaining an advantage over us cheating then, sadly, we have to as well.

If we pull off a victory against the Arse, and we don't meet City until the final, we have a good chance of getting Europa via an FA cup final appearance. I think Europe would be great blooding the fringe and youth players into a competitive environment playing Martinez style ticka tacka.

I think utd will finish above us tbh. Think we will finish 6th and Spurs 7th looking at the run in. Europe for 6th as long as city beat Sunderland in the Carling cup final

I think from next season, UEFA is increasing the profile of the Europa...more money and an entry into CL (if you win). 6th should get in and I think that's us
