fozzy;1175571 when "its a grand old team to play for" is a spuds song![/QUOTE said:
You sure about this, Fozzy? I mean, I know they sing a version sometimes (though hardly ever, really) because I live a mile from the Lane but, hmmm.....

From Wiki:

The Celtic Song is the song played over the public address system at Celtic Park, Glasgow when the Scottish football team, Celtic, run on to the pitch before kick-off. It has been claimed that is set to the tune of "With cat-like tread, upon our prey we steal", from the 1879 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Pirates of Penzance, but this is not entirely correct: "Hail hail the Celts are here" is sung to the tune of "Come friends who plough the sea" from the same sequence in Pirates, but "It's a grand old team" bears no resemblance to "With cat-like tread" [1]. On the popular television programLost, Desmond Hume can be heard singing the original version of the song. There are many versions of the song. However, the original version played at Parkhead was recorded by Glen Daly.
Versions of the song are sung by supporters of other clubs around the British Isles, most notably The Everton Song, a more ribald rendition by the fans of Everton.

"I'm proud to have had Rafael as our manager. When I look back, I think what a great appointment it was, and how close it came to all going right. Even though it didn't, he gave us brilliant nights, and made good players great. That's expertise. Look at all the players he got games out of even when they knew they were leaving. Dudek, Cisse, Mellor, Pongolle, Carson, Djimi, Smicer, Biscan - the list goes on and on, yet apparently he can't man manage?

The guy is one of the best managers in the world, and he'd have given the best managers of any age a game, yet count down the Premier League, and with the exception of ourselves - (and that with reservations, for various reasons) - no-one wants him, no-one seems even to rate him as a manager.

What goes on with these people? Do they not want their clubs to succeed? English football, the old up and at em once again, puff, kick, boot, puff, kick, boot.

I want to see Rafael's smile when he wins trophies, cos that's what a manager of his brilliance should have the opportunity to do. I hope he does go to Europe to do it, because I don't want him beating us. I'd love to see him kicking the **** of Chelsea, and the Mancs again. I'd love to see the English football establishment try and explain it all away yet again.

Rafael Benitez - you are a genius, and one of our greats. I love you."

"I remember the day Rafael walked and it really did break my heart. The man is intelligent, has integrity, passionate, caring, geniune and vastly talented and that [Poor language removed] Purslow who calls himself a fan got rid of him.

It also made my blood boil the way the media made a mockery of him in the wake of the 'facts' press conference. Typically the vile bastards brown-nosed to Mr Alex Ferguson. Rafael was given a dogs abuse by the British media, the likes of Paddy Barclay etc, and for that alone I will never forgive them. "

"possibly the best coach in Europe certainly in the top 3 and he's rubbished by some and currently unemployed"

how well did he do in his last job and when was the last time he was employed as a manager?

this is just brilliant work :)

Haven't been on here in ages but we've been completely embarassing recently. There's definitely better managers tactically than Dalglish but with him being such a hero for so many reasons it's almost a no-win situation because it's so fickle to turn on him, so for me I'm not too bothered either way. This season is over in terms of the league and needs to be forgotten about for Liverpool fans, obviously the FA Cup game is huge. Even if we do beat your lot I'd still be embarassed if we finish lower in the league because, with the money we've spent, there's literally no excuses. Our biggest problem all season has been our gameplan of 'get it to Suarez and hope', and that's why I wouldn't be too down at all if he left for £30m or so because we need a much more stable team. Still, we have been laughable since January, and any Liverpool fan who denies that is deluded.

Also, this whole 'Rafael back' thing is stupid. If we do end up with Benitez again, I can see him starting well and ending badly just like last time, our own fans seem to forget how he was hounded out. Saying that, he is undoubtedly a good manager and a proven one too.

Laughing stock can only get worse if Rafael returns. Keen to understand how a single fan can understand and say a manager( he doesn't know, or even met) has, integrity and intelligence.

I think Benitez is a world class manager but a frustrating one. Tactically he's one of the best in the world, but he manages to annoy fans with his stubbornness. If you sift through the ****e and think of some of the players Benitez brought to Liverpool, it's easy to see why he's got such a good reputation, but fans don't warm to him because of his tendency to rotate loads or do things like switching left backs instead of bringing forwards on when he's chasing a game.

I don't know him, but I'm willing to call him a sour faced poor loser, unreasonable, and a fat ****. Based upon various media appearances etc.
