Jesus, it's a job ffs. Don't be a dick to them, they hate their company just as much as you do.

True, but they are adults and I bet they suffer a lot of abuse day in, day out. I think the silent treatment is a nice little break for them compared with being shouted at.

bit like marmite this one!!!!!

They'll be on commissions, though. I used to sell door to door and what you want when someone isn't interested is for them to tell you to feck off as quickly as possible so you can move on to someone who might be.

It doesn't help that you're told by your bosses to ask everyone three times before you accept a no.

[Poor language removed] off mate.

I know it's a bit rude but at one point this time last year I was getting about 5 calls a day from car insurance companies, eventually it got to the point where I'd answer the call, hear what they had to say and just hang up.

I must admit I've shouted a bit of light abuse at traffic wardens before. It is only their job though.

Trust me when I say that's exactly what the guys want. They'd much rather you just hang up if you're not going to buy then try and waste their time.

I hate telemarkerters as much as anyone else (the ones that really drive me nuts are the automated ones, where it's not even a real person wasting your time) but just say I'm not interested and hang up.

Is there any point of still having a landline?

Broadband? That's the only real use for them I think.

Yeah. It is only a job at the end of it. Some people may be doing so rather begrudgingly too and possibly want to speak to you as much as you want to speak to them.

The PPI ones annoy me the most.

"Oh hai, we've looked at your details and you could claim back up to £3500 in PPI !!!"

Which is odd as the only time I've ever 'borrowed' money is through my overdraft.

I think its rude they ring and don't even ask if its convenient and just go into a sales pitch - i'd leave the fone sitting there and make them wait.
