As horrific as the slave trade was, is it the most horrific thing that has ever happened? Sadly, no.

What about genocide? There are many museums that exist that show historical evidence of genocide. Auschwitz...The Killing Fields in Cambodia etc…

Should these memorials be torn down? No. They should be kept to remind people of what has happened in the past. Tear these down, and people might start to forget.

As for the slave trade, I’ve read many times and from different sources that there are more slaves in the world today than there were at the height of the African slave trade. Perhaps our focus should be on saving the people that are still suffering and being abused. It might be illegal now, but that does not mean that it’s not still happening. Illegality just makes it harder to know how many people are still suffering.

Is there a big statue of Hitler at Auschwitz?

Create a museum for all of it. Learn about the history. Grow
Until sometime in the future the museum mysteriously gets set on fire and then it's all gone, and future generations can debate if slavery ever actually really happened.
It's a fact that there were more white European slaves owned by Muslim slave owners in North Africa than there were black slaves that crossed the Atlantic a fact that has been buried in history to the point where people never heard of it and many refuse to believe it, that's the point if "you remove the evidence you remove the deed" not my words I heard it on Sky News yesterday spoken by a black professor from Edinburgh and I 100% agree with him when he said that along with saying that all these statues should have a plaque explaining everything that they did, he said that these statues represent human history they represent black history.
If you want to put all symbols of slavery in a museum it's going to have to be one hell of a building, stately homes will have to go in alot of them were built on the back of slave money, slave traders were licensed to do so by the crown so any symbols of the British monarchy will have to go in.
Where does this actually stop? Is it just statues? Should street names be changed? Should buildings that were built using slaves or money made from slaves be demolished? Should any organisation that allowed slavery or licensed it be disbanded? How far does this have to go? Where's the line of what symbols of slavery goes into this museum and what symbols of slavery are just too important and under no circumstances be touched?

Pathetic now this.

There is almost literally nothing that cant be found of note that hasn't got exploitation written all over it.

Personally I'd like to see any street, estate, district named after anyone from the world of business re-named with a socialist martyr's name, and I'd like any building / statue erected with the name of a capitalist plunderer or military chief renamed / dragged down.

Why should I and many others have our sensibilities ignored? Why should I and others continue to have our noses rubbed in the system we detest?

It's not fair.

Nope, the Germans tried as much as possible to rid of any symbols of nazis, the effect? Only 80 odd years after the events you've already got holocaust deniers, these events happened in the lifetimes of some people still living yet you've already got deniers, that's what happens when you remove symbols of history.

I don’t think holocaust deniers sprung up due to a lack of prominent symbolic evidence of the events.

so leaving the actual camp In place where over a million people Were murdered didn’t convince them the holocaust happened but leaving a statue Up with a swastika on it would ? I’ll be honest I’m struggling To follow that logic

Genuine question Dave, what gets you out of bed in the morning? Everything is the worst thing ever.

Probably why it's been pulled, for being too boring...

They're putting it back up at some point. They just want to put up a documentary/context show with it.

Although I'd says it a film not on the same lines as say Schindler's List where having a documentary about what really happened is worthwhile as the two are linked.

Gone With the Wind is film in the backdrop of slavery, it's not about it. Same with Django Unchained from a few years ago for example. Although...I would like to see a companion documentary with that lol.
