Keir Starmer. Socialist.

Be interesting if Shami and David Davies saddle up again as they did against Blair with Id cards...

Yep. More than possible against the current bunch of wasters.
If Starmer can pull the party more into the central ground
and away from the hard left, they could easily win the next election.
I just hope he doesn't commit any war crimes though :)
"Away from the hard left" eh?
Mid table centrism/mediocrity then.
May as well stay with the current shower of crap then, masquerading as a government

:( :(

Given that the country as a whole is more right leaning than left, does the Labour party stay to the left and try to get elected on its principles, or move towards the centre and give up some unpopular polices so they get elected and can effect change ?

Interesting point...what would you describe as "unpopular choices"? Your knowledge of politics must tell you that Starmer will be given a rough ride by a media bent on keeping the tories in power. The other thing is, how can the current party effect change (if elected) if its policies are centre right which it will imo take for approval to be given by Murdoch & co. Surely if you think that the Tories are not moving further right, there would be little change from what we have now.

Be interested to hear your views on the present electoral system. Do you think it needs changing or should we persist with it?

I think the current system is a bit crap, and if we could change it for something that is more representative of the parties/policies that people want then I am all for it.

It's very frustrating living in a stronghold for a political party that you do not support, feels like its just a wasted vote and a waste of time come elections knowing full well your vote will just get swamped out, with a more proportional system then the thought that every vote counts would go a long way to encourage more people to vote imo

The Norwegians seem to really like the way their system works, but that is just what I have noticed via tv/interweb, something for me to look at in my spare time I think. Apart from ours, the Americans and proportional representation I am not that au fait with other democratic voting methods.

We had a referendum in 2011 on a form of PR, an 'alternate vote' system. It lost.

Didn't help that the chief proponent of it was Nick Clegg.
