Fantastic ideas but as you say chaotic. In an election, you need clear messaging. It seemed Labour had a big policy announcement on a daily basis.

Part of the reason why I think Labour won 40% of the vote in 2017 was because of how clearly defined their anti austerity campaign was. This time around the Tories were also supporting increases in spending and on the biggest issue of all they had it spot on. People wanted Brexit done and dusted, not whatever nonsense Labour was offering. Listening to the likes of Starmer and Adonis cost Labour as much as Corbyn´s lack of popularity.

Yes. The Brexit turn was disastrous.

The net consequence was the BXP feared Labour could win and get rid of Brexit, so they stood aside. All the time they said they'd honour the result, they would have felt compelled to stand to fight for the post Brexit world, and continue eating into Tory support.

I think a split would be catastrophic in terms of being able to win elections unless of course first past the post was replaced. If the Labour Party did go its separate ways, serious questions would have to be asked of UK democracy and whether opposition parties stood a real chance of ever defeating the Tories.

In the short term yes, but in the medium term no. I watched the 2001 election back the other day, and people saw no way back for the Tories, politics changes quickly.

If there was a party, to the left of Labour beginningto dominate the agenda as almost a reverse Brexit Party, it would have quite a profound impact on how poitics went in the medium term.

It’s not us that have started the civil war within the party though.

This is a clear attempt to purge the Labour Party of a certain type of politician, the type of politician that has built the labour movement over decades.

People can’t sit back and let that happen.

Im sounding like davek ffs

lol

No better man to sound like :pint2:

Back then I genuinely thought I would never seen another Tory government in my lifetime.

If only Blair had not got into bed with Bush over Iraq and Afghanistan and ruin himself I might have got my wish.

You are right in how quickly things can change. I think something seismic would have to happen for a split to happen though. It´s funny because as toxic as the Labour brand can be in certain areas, both sides of the Party would be desperate to cling to it. The fate of Change UK will be at the forefront in the minds of any groups tempted to start a new movement.

The difference is though, Momentum et al take tens if not hundreds of thousands of members campagners.

Unite boss Len McCluskey says Corbyn suspension will "create chaos" in Labour party
Unite union boss and Corbyn ally Len McCluskey said the decision to suspend Corbyn will “create chaos” within the Labour party and leave it “doomed to defeat”.

This was a day for our party to move forward as one to defeat the evil of anti-Semitism.

However, the decision to suspend Jeremy Corbyn has threatened that opportunity.

The suspension appears to fly in the face of one of the important recommendations made by the EHRC - and which Keir himself said he would implement in full and immediately - which is to remove the leader’s office from party investigations.

But it is also an act of grave injustice which, if not reversed, will create chaos within the party and in doing so compromise Labour’s chances of a general election victory. A split party will be doomed to defeat.

I therefore call upon Keir to work across the party on a fitting and unifying way forward, to unite our party behind the implementation of the EHRC’s important recommendations so that they can be taken forward as speedily as possible, and with the members’ full trust and confidence.

I also appeal to members angered by this suspension not to leave the party but to support moves to find a better way through.

Working people are under fire like never before and ill-served by the worst government of our lifetimes. More than ever, they need a strong, united Labour party to stand up for them, ready to govern.
