Seems to be the crux of things, certainly. There have been enough articles and pundits claiming that we're facing a major decline in living standards, that the young generations now are the first to have 'less' than their forebears, all of that stuff that's easy to understand in the abstract but perhaps not as easy for anyone to visualise the specifics of how they themselves will be affected.

But we're seeing those effects right now, in real time, and the reactions to them. Farmers losing an inheritance tax benefit? WASPI women independently judged to be due a a handout they won't receive? Wealthy pensioners losing their bonus fuel handout? The aspirational middle classes struggling to send their kids to private school, or invest in property for additional passive income? Some of those causes are worthier than I others I grant you, but the result of all of them is at best a Telegraph hit piece complaining about Labour tax raids and at worst lines of tractors (Chelsea or otherwise) blocking London's streets as all these hard workers give themselves a day off.

There's a snobbish attitude permeating a certain type of Brit that all these long-forewarned collapses in living standards should only apply to other people, perhaps those households that are that are already poor and having to make use of food banks in between juggling multiple jobs and the (state) school run. What's a little extra poverty heaped on those already resigned to it, in order to keep the perks flowing elsewhere?
Oh I'm fully aware of the 'I'm alright Jack's'. The attitude of "can't feed your kids? shouldn't of had them then!". Cutting the throats of the most vulnerable.

I'm aware of impoverished issues elsewhere, specifically nhs waits and quality of treatment (if at all). There's so many so pished off with providing more effort for even less pay that they're giving up. I hark back to a certain government that had the audacity to beg recently retired or retiring nurses to put themselves in the firing line for the country for the covid efforts.
"We're in the privileged position of making money" michelle mone's husband. What government contracts (tax payer money) did frank hester find himself in the privileged position to receive?

The tory universe of the last 15 years is akin to the top table that putin presides over in russia, the oligarchs get theirs, and the people get nothing.

Oh wow, news now - 'AI justice'.

The tory and now reform mantra has infected so many, punch down and punch down hard. foreigners, illegals*, asylums, gays, trans, poor, women, homeless, sick, disabled, criminal. "The harder you punch down, the more chance you move yourself up you know".

The Starmer Gang's 'plan' to pump £28 billion of investment into environmental friendly energies and industries results in u-turn on investment and commitments to build more polluting incinerators around the uk and developing oil fields around Scottish coasts.

...and, of course, NeverHereKeir's extensive carbon footprint.

So making the state the landlord is the way to help people get onto the housing ladder?

For these 1.5 million homes? It’s going to do a lot more to help than the status quo will.

Having that much more social housing stock in the system will reduce rents for all, which will probably quite quickly result in some of the landlords (sorry - entrepreneurs) selling up. It will help reduce house prices overall too, and if the government is sensible about rents on these homes it will create the opportunity for the occupants to save money for deposits to buy homes.

Plus of course taxpayers money that currently goes out in the billions on HB will instead be kept here, instead of going to Dubai, Monaco etc where it’s currently wasted on ungrateful Instagram wretches living empty, meaningless lives.

Absolute bunch of amateur numpties. Lammy and co giving away Diego Garcia is now turning into an economic farce with Mauritius now demanding hundreds of millions per year plus billions in ‘reparations’. This lot couldn’t manage a seaside stall selling bars of rock…..

This will end up like blood scandal mid Staffordshire... Probably waiting years for inquiry!

I think you’re right when you say that this is set to be the next “ scandal “

That makes for horrific reading:
