Yeah, only young people fall for misinformation because they can’t think for themselves. It was definitely the young people not thinking for themselves that gave us Brexit, not loads of older people voting due to an immense wave of misinformation and lies.
virtue flag waver! maybe you should sign up for conscription and be the community leadership that rebuilds the world from the ground up!

Shambles!!

That's the thing about misinformation, you need to be able to have a level of real world education to work out what is believable and what obviously isn't. As for the Brits and their Brexit, was it the Boomers who sold out or the generation who didn't bother to vote because they were binge watching TIc Toc videos or it was raining?

It wasn’t about the war in Ukraine. He posted an RT article implying that the novichok attack in Salisbury wasn’t committed by Russia.

I'm just aware of how ill-equipped the average human brain is to deal with the modern flood of misinformation, especially when it's targeted via algorithm to those most primed to believe it, and perhaps even more especially when it's shared via online friendship groups (and so has a level of inherent 'trust' baked in) or spread on social media where the misinformation consumer feels they have some sort of relationship to the content creator, with the same effect.

I do sometimes have some hope that people in general have the capacity to deal with this stuff, but then I see one of your posts and I'm reminded that's probably not the case.

Kids should really be educated as to how their minds work, and how people manipulate what they think.

That’s a different point to the one you were making. You suggested that the there was a specific problem with the younger generation getting sucked in by misinformation. I gave you an example of it also being a problem with older people.

Voter apathy is a different conversation.

They add up to the same outcome. And it's a bit more than apathy,I've a sneaking suspicion that the Brit generation who didn't get off their behind to vote probably weren't ever aware of what their addiction to social media was going to lead to.

What does that prove?

Misinformation and social media addiction spans all ages.
Maybe that the young have a short attention span? I remember the tide of support that speech generated on social media that sadly didn't translate into votes in the ballot box.

Mainly because a lot of the younger votes Corbyn energised went to already safe seats.

Urban, university educated metropolitan towns.

Stop using divisive tactics. We're all being exploited through algorithms being hacked via social media. Old and young.
