"And everybody in the Commune clapped".
Those amateurs in Wako had nothing on us
When the authorities burst in with flame throwers
We used the fires to roast our victims
Imagine one of those Viking banquets
But every dish was a cannibal delight
We had Jesus on our side in those days
Shame we'd ran out of coleslaw already though....

I voted for Starmer to be leader because I backed his ten pledges. Being honest right now he sickens me and I would take that vote back in a second.

But, I live in a swing area with a Tory MP who is a massive gobshite of the highest order. The person running for Labour in my seat I know from my working life and i would call him left of centre and after speaking with him earlier I've decided to help campaign with him as I believe in him only and not the main party.
He has the title "Sir". The clue to who he really is is literally in his name. Nobody titled Sir should be anywhere near the Labour movement.

It appeals to the cap doffing idiots among the working class. They love a bit of Establishment. Makes them yearn even more for the days of serfdom.

As opposed to good old Viscount Stansgate the 2nd who was a real man of the people.
There’s a massive difference between accepting a knighthood and having a hereditary Lordship thrust upon you. He ditched it as soon as he could. I remember him having a debate with Roy Jenkins, the Labour minister who was a huge social climber. He told Jenkins - “ I’ve had what you want Roy and I gave it up “.

Ah, so to come from the kind of privilege whereby such titles are handed down is okay so long as you renounce your privilege, but working your way up to whereby you might get such titles based upon your achievements is bad.

I lean Republicanist, and so in an ideal world would like to see more people refuse honours, but in this country generally people don't agree with that position and so I don't actually expect them to do so.

By tradition, the outgoing head of the CPS is given a knighthood for their services to the nation. If you look down the list of holders of the position, the only ones who aren't sirs or dames are the ones who are already peers anyway. I can accept that far more than I can accept people like Sir Rees-Mogg, who has done as much as anyone to impoverish the country, and all of his ilk.

Don't bother mate, he doesn't understand.

This week Starmer's Tories are set to annnounce that 'the New Deal for Working People' is to be rebranded as 'Labour’s plan to make work pay'.
