It was @NilSatisOptimum asking for patience; two or three terms... so, 15 years!

I'm not living in a cocoon. I'm old enough to remember the last Labour Governement were spending £4 for every £3 that came in. They left this country with a truly horrific deficit that we have never recovered from... a snowball effect that is hard to stop, never mind reverse.

Already, excuses are being made for a potential new Labour government... and to shift blame back to the Conservatives for the last 14 years.

Blame goes back more than 14 years. It's Blair and Brown that put the country in the financial mess we currently find ourselves in.

Under you're heroes we have quadrupled the National debt, corruption is rife, how many joke Prime Ministers have their been, you're Government was partying during a World pandemic. And without doubt after 14 years of Government the Country is far, far worse off, probably as bad as it's ever been. Taxes are higher than ever as well, poverty has increased amongst the lower classes and food banks are a necessity for more and more people. Blair and Brown never came close to the mess the Tories have made over the last 14 years, thank God it's nearing the end. The reason it will take so long to repair is all down to the Tory party.

This really is basic stuff...

The last Labour government inherited a budget surplus = more money was coming in than was being spent. They turned that surplus into a deficit, by spending £4 for every £3 that came in.

National debt will continue to rise so long as there is a budget deficit. Until the national spending deficit is eliminated, national debt will continue to rise.

How will the Labour party eliminate the spending deficit? If the polls are to be believed, it's about to become their responsibility...

Yes it's basically true, what i can't believe is that after 14 years of sheer carnage, greed and corruption, of abject failure and lies, you still find reasons to support this Tory Government, when just about everybody's knows the real reason, personal greed at any cost and basically thats all Tories are, sod people, sod the sick, the old, sod human rights sod the poor, sod the homeless, let's prosecute them. Hopefully after 14 years the penny has finally dropped, that these pathetic little tax cuts, that cut services are not for the majority of the people, but for the few, they are the ones with their snouts in the trough, like you Mr White, hopefully you're day is over, for now anyway..

OK... I wasn't supporting the current government. Just highlighting the current issue of national debt. FYI... five it 5 years, and if Labour do get voted back in, the national debt will be ten-fold worse what it is right now.

Respectfully, most of your post is a rant.

Over the last, say, 40 years, how many times has a budget surplus been achieved?

That's you're opinion and you're entitled to it, I thought it was just in my view honesty and I could have said a lot more, I've obviously missed quite a bit.
Again you're speculating about the Labour party, ten-fold worse, really ? Now that's a stretch. Let's wait and see eh.

Thanks mystic Meg

In the meantime you can go back to ignoring the 36Bn they scammed on the Dido Harding scandal, the 30 BN Truss and Kwarteng blew and the billions lost in furlough fraud, PPE scandals and the latest recession they have put the country into.
