I just think they are absolutely terrified of the right wing press getting hold of anything that could harm their election chances...I just hope things get more progressive once they get into power
It's all very Blair era - they were petrified of upsetting the Daily Mail and the unmentionable red-top.

Mandleson is hanging around and I'd guess there's an Alaistair Campbell equivalent briefing on managing the media.

I think we'll see this dance long-term.

I’d go along with this until I was in power then I’d bring in a law overnight that prohibits anyone not domiciled in the UK from owning a UK newspaper. In the run up to the election I’d allow the rumour to emerge. That’d give the gutter press food for thought.

I think Campbell probably has some (low) level of involvement. Been a few comments that suggest as much on the rest is politics podcast.

what was starmer thinking commenting on the england shirt and suggesting a rethink. fool. Becoming increasingly dislikable and foppish to the latest cause célèbre, stick to the actual destruction and despair inflicted upon the country by the tories and the ghouls that vote them in. Energy, poverty, health.

Get it right numb-nuts!
I took it as a fairly cynical nod to the brexit voting red wall electorate - see we can be patriotic too nonsense.

I've had a bit of a fear that ever since the election has been seen as Labour's to lose, they will do everything they can to lose it.

The electorate is quite considerably bigger than the circulation of the daily mail. Wish he would start building a positive case to vote Labour, give us a vision of how a Labour government will improve the country

Lots of the people who read the “ Daily Mail” wouldn’t ever vote Labour anyway. So why try to placate them ?
