Yes , electable to carry out pseudo Tory policies.
He's worse than Blair.

….that will make him a terrific PM.

i worked in the public sector for over 40 years and never was the service offering better than during the Blair years. The country is an absolute mess, a return to Blair would be very welcome as far as I’m concerned.

I was disappointed with blair.l was out of the country when he was elected and returned to UK in 2001.
He had not repealed any of the Thatcher anti union and labour laws.
He made mistakes with Iraq and in
making all HE institutions into universities. Imo.

….all governments run their course and his was no different, Iraq was certainly his legacy but there was so much good during his time.

The country doesn't need another Blair.

It's a completely different time than when he was in power.

Blair politics will get Labour in power, but won't keep them in power.

Exactly.

In fact, if this WAS Blairism Mk.II I'd hold my nose and vote for them. At least Blair had a 'Third Way' philosophy that didn't completely capitulate to the private sector...unlike Starmer's gang has.

I presume you mean polytechnics attaining university status? If so that happened in 1992. You can't pin that on one Blair. Tuition fees and the 50% of young people going to university, yes.

A decent and honourable politician was Darling.

When you compare all the current government to Brown/Darling, it's shocking how far and how fast the country has fallen.

Maybe it is a symptom of aging, coppers all look like kids etc. But you can easily apply that metric to ex politicians of most party's. That said, Darling was a class act imo.

Some years ago, there was a documentary "The Bank That Almost Broke Britain", about Darling and the bank bailout. It was quite an eye opener, he was so calm and measured in the way he dealt with the banks, and in the end, he told them all that he'd set out what he was prepared to do and was going to go home and go to bed while they decided among themselves whether to accept it or not.

He had balls of steel and I don't think we could have had anyone better in the job at that time especially when compared to recent minsters of high state and their PMs.

Quite. To paraphrase, he told them he didnt care about their shareholders, he cared about the country. He will be remembered in history for good stuff.
