Classic meaningless technocrat nonsense. Politics based on optics is as deplorable as politics guided by selfishness.I suppose for me there is both what the government does and how it does it. Domestically, the Tories have done naff all since 2019, yet they're on their knees because of how they've gone about their job, so just pledging to reinject some honesty, decency, and accountability into government would go a bloody long towards convincing many people, as it's those things that have so turned them off of the Tories.
There are lots of things Labour could do to differentiate themselves from the Tories, but I would regard nationalising stuff in the same way I'd regard "reversing Brexit". It's not a vote winner, and it would be a very short memory indeed if people forget that Corbyn got an absolute thumping at the last election on that kind of "extreme" ticket.
There also has to be a very real consideration being given to the fact that we might have a coalition government with the LDs, Greens and SNP. That remains the most realistic way of ensuring the Tories don't get back in, and that would require some compromises and a more centrist ticket than hardcore Labour members would undoubtedly like. That wouldn't make them "Tories" though, or even "Tory lite", and it's a bit childish to throw those accusations about.
Inspire people with an alternative vision for the country. You never know, it might actually make it a better place to live.
