To be fair mate, Beckford has little to no experience as a lone striker. Bringing Yakubu on and playing a two man strike partnership could've given him a bit more freedom, and given Yakubu ability to pick a pass, someone who can slip him through in the final third.
We are asking a player who plays on the last defender to be a hold up player and play with his back to goal. It's asking alot of a player who's come from League one.
fair comment TB, he may have improved with the change, but I can see Moyes' thinking as well. Interesting that you say he plays on the last defender. too many times we were trying long balls and he wasn't on the last defender at all, but had dropped deep ala Rooney to try and get involved. Later on, he went more forward and was offside more than once. His positioning and anticipation does seem poor - the difference between yakubu and beckford in those departments was telling.
