If it's personal terms, he's not worth upsetting our pay structure for.

Lot of people may not agree with this. This is a regular Dutch international who plays CB and right back, two key positions for us, the asking price was a really good deal for us. Even if he wanted an extra £20k a week, that's only £1m a year. I can hear the cries already complaining that Kenwright's a skinflint if we let the transfer fall through over that kind of money.

Its not though tad, because Arteta, Cahill, Yakubu and co's wage parity clauses would kick in.

The mirror says its on like Donkey Kong:

Everton are set to land Johnny Heitinga in a £5million move after the Dutch star agreed to compromise on his wage demands.

The transfer had stalled over Heitinga’s demands for almost £80,000-a-week, which would have made him the best-paid player in Everton’s history.

But a deal was struck on Monday night after a day of intense negotiations between Everton officials and Heitinga’s representatives.

Heitinga, 25, is due to jet in to Merseyside on Tuesday to have his medical and complete his move.

David Moyes is delighted with the breakthrough in talks and is confident the deal can be wrapped up before the 5pm deadline.

Moyes is attracted by his versatility and he can play right-back, centre-half or as a defensive midfielder.

Steven Pienaar played alongside Heitinga at Ajax and believes his pal will be a great addition to the Everton squad.

“I know Johnny really well,” said Pienaar. “He’s a good defender, a good professional and his record shows that as he’s played for Ajax, Atletico and Holland.

“He’d be a great signing for us. He can play in a few positions - right-back, centre-back or just in front of the defence. He’s a quality player.

“If he comes in, it would bring more football to the team also. He’s good on the ball and it would be a massive plus for us. You want to see players of his quality come to the club.”

Moyes is determined to sign two more players before the transfer window closes and is still chasing Valencia’s Ever Banega.

Moyes wants to Banega on a season-long loan deal and has secured a work permit, but has yet to get the green light from the Argentinian midfielder.

Maybe that's why Moyesy has been demanding more money power.

If we are to be ambitious then the players we target are bound to want more money than our pay structure allows.

So if the more important players need parity, then they should be given it, it shouldn't hinder us strengthening the side.

Agreed. There are a lot more players at Everton, who would deserve that salary more than Heitinga. Not saying I don't want Heitinga at Everton, not at all, but he won't be one of our leading players. I'm sure about that.
Dangerous territory paying wages this high, especially for right backs. This type of thing will surely cause a few rumblings within the squad.

Everton boss David Moyes has made a shock last-ditch move for Portsmouth’s unsettled Niko Kranjcar.

Croatian midfielder Kranjcar, 25, is also been a target for Tottenham who made a cheeky bid to take him on loan yesterday and Harry Redknapp is weighing up whether to make a beat-the-deadline bid.

But Moyes - anxious to strengthen his squad after netting £22m for Joleon Lescott - is also an admirer and Kranjcar fits into his budget after Everton were priced out of the running for Tottenham’s David Bentley.

Kranjcar wants to join the exodus from Portsmouth after Peter Crouch, Glen Johnson and Sol Campbell all quit the club this summer.

another piece by the mirror hopefully more news soon
