as a bit of perspective at this time, michael turner (who is six days older than heitinga, who has no international caps, who has one seasons experience in the pl and who has never played in europe) went for £12 million.

I know he's been plying his trade as CB of late, but you get the feeling there's now lots of options in midfield with his arrival. I reckon Neville will just slot in at RB now.

That's what I'd like to see, either Neville at right back and Heitinga in midfield or Neville in midfield and Heitinga at right back.

He doesn't really have to be a pacy fullback. If he's a good defender, has good technical ability and can whip in a decent cross he'll be an improvement on Hibbert. Look at Corluka at Spurs, he's one of the slowest players in the League but he's so composed and can keep hold of the ball.

I'm hoping Big John is that type of player.

Yep, good signing. Miles and miles and miles better than the fellas we were linked with a couple of weeks ago (Taylor, Senderos, Dunne etc).

I'll be surprised with him playing right back if I'm honest.

I know Hibbert is a waste of space IMO but he seems to be getting forward more. The problem being is that Ossie never helps him out and they dont play well together which leaves us open.

So that leaves centre half...or defensive midfield. The fact I think Neville is far better than Hibbert at RB I wouldnt be surprised with him getting a chance at defensive midfield as Neville tucks over to RB.

He might have been a bit shocking as a DM in Spain (I think), but its a different game over here. Manny Fernandes is a solid as fook DM in Spain...wouldnt make it as a DM over here...so we'll see.

But I'll think he's shine at centre half....but Distin is rock solid...as is Yobo....

Looks a better defence than last season.

Pretty much as I see it. As TxB says, CB pairing is sorted (for now) with Yobo/Distin and Neville is the obvious choice for RB (unless more business is done). The scramble for the CM places is going to be intriguing. As I said the other night, though, we have a good quality bench now so some of the players who've hitherto walked into the team are going to have exercise patience and show discipline in that respect.
