Everton are closing in on signing Johnny Heitinga after agreeing a fee of £5m with Atletico Madrid for the 25-year-old Netherlands defender.
Toffees manager David Moyes said on Sunday that a deal had been done with the Spanish club, but that there is still work to do to get the player.
"We have not as yet agreed personal terms," he said.
"I hope we will be able to do that soon, but we have not as yet concluded that part of the move. I am indebted to pete the postie for his great PR work on Johnny's website as I am certain that was what tipped the balance in the favour of Everton Football Club."
The deal must be concluded before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Everton recently sold central defender Joleon Lescott to Manchester City for about £22m but signed Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee on Friday. A spokesman for City, a Mr. L. Gallagher, said: 'If we'd only listened to pete the postie we could have got Joleon for a lot less!'

Heitinga, who can play at right-back and centre-back joined Atletico in July 2008 from Ajax on a five-year contract.

Well I never! I'm embarrassed now

The nerve of some people.
Pete does all the hard work and flaming Moyes takes the credit.
Typical. :P

LCAB

You heard anything about Bently possibly coming????

Any news on Banega, LCAB?

Positive news if possible.(y)

No , and though both him and we are keen , folks are fast losing patience , and I heard there's a deadline of tomorrow close of biz - it's not a Bank Hol over there , I assume .
Apart from that , I know nothing .
I asked re; Bentley last week and he said if it was gonna happen it would've already . Though , that was pre - Benega stalling , Bentley drink - driving thing , but also Modric's broken leg .
He texted me today re ; Heitinga but didn't say anything else .
And , as Dan San will concur - I forwarded him the text - me mate said , " Ill keep you in touch . " Though I've heard nothing , but admittedly am not his first priority .

Watching a Dutch footy talkshow at the moment. One of the journalists claimed that he spoke with Heitinga before the match and he made it clear, that he was staying at Athletico.

That would concur with some articles i've read

It's out in the open now, he isn't coming:(
