The January window could be the difference

Player Valuation: £40m
9 points separate the top 8 teams. How they use the window could determine everything from the league winners to CL places.

Arsenal- Still have money to spend. Podolski and Walcott are just coming back and they still have Oxlade-Chamberlain to return. It wouldn't surprise me if they went with what they've got but I think Wenger might look for back up for Giroud though.

City- I can't see them doing a lot of business either. Where do they need to strengthen? They might decide to loan Jovetic out and bring someone else in to compete for a first-team place. They might also look for a stronger partner for Kompany.

Chelsea- If Mourinho is to be trusted, he has said that they won't be bringing any other strikers in. Again, where could they reinforce? They have quality midfielders who can't get a game and I don't think the defence is an urgent priority.

Everton- We definitely need cover up front, especially if Jelavic is leaving. Martinez has suggested that he'd like some back up for Barry and McCarthy too. It seems like we have money to spend. Hopefully we'll be able to bring someone in who can make an immediate impact.

Liverpool- Rodgers has hinted that there isn't a lot of money available. He might decide that he needs another striker to take the weight of Suarez and Sturridge. Or he might just bring in a couple of bodies to help flesh out the squad.

United- Moyes is going to have to spend. A creative midfielder is a priority but who is he going to be able to sign mid-season and will they be able to hit the ground running?

Spurs- I think Levy will be loathe to spend any more money but it seems like Sherwood will dig his heels in and insist. They look like they need reinforcements at the back and they might swap Defoe for another striker. They're still pretty imbalanced though.

Judging by the last window I think that we might do the best in the January sales too.

We need a very good loan signing in midfield for depth, and an exceptional bit of scouting to sign an ace, obscure striker for a pittance.

Because although we should have at the very least £10m to spend, I'm not naive enough to even hope that Martinez will ever see it for transfers.

Last year we did no business and suffered for it. The board have to back Martinez if we have any intentions of top 4.

We definitely need to reinforce Midfield if only never to see Leon playing cdm again, also so we can keep rotating and keeping our main men fresh. Deulofeu coming back will also give us more options in the wide areas but I'd still like to see a left sided winger as I don't think Oviedo is upto much starting in an attacking position.

We only need to bring in a striker if Jelly is on his way out, I'd rather wait til the end of the season an see how much money we've got and our final position before we think about replacing Lukaku.

Finally January should see the end of the leach that is John Heitinga which will free up some much needed room on the wages front, I personally don't think he needs replacing as we now have a fit Alcaraz as back up to Jags & Distin with Stones also ready to fill in should Antolin's injuries reoccur.

Overall I don't think we need to spend much, we just need to bulk the squad out a bit for rotation.

10-15m would do us

we should try to bring Jose Salomon Rondon, powerful striker, goalscorer, and it would be nice to bring Guillermo Ochoa as goalkeeper, his contract is running out this seeason

I'd say we need to first of all get Gibson a working pair of legs or get another CM in who can cover Barry and McCarthy, the CM position is crucial to our system so we need to be sure of having quality there. We also need to strengthen our forward positions with backup to Lukaku and a Mirallas/Deulofeu type player that can either displace Mirallas or Pienaar or be an impact sub like Deulofeu.

Who these players are I haven't got a clue but I trust Martinez to find them plus they only really need to be cover so we won't necessarily need to break the bank to get them. If we sort these positions I reckon we'll be in a strong position to push on because we'll have Deulofeu, Jags, Gibson and Kone to come back so once they return our squad will have plenty of options and competition plus with everyone there Martinez will have a bench that he can influence a game with.

The thing is though is whether Martinez will get the funds to strengthen or whether he will actually use the funds he's given, he may well opt to wait it out until summer when his targets aren't at a premium but that seems very risky with what is at stake this season and how we finish this season can affect the calibre of player we can attract in the summer.

No. Rondon is absolutely Shocking. Take it from me, i watched him for too long with Málaga. Salomon Rondon is GASH.

And the same Guillermo Ochoa who's conceded 34 goals in 18 league games this season? No.

Jose Salomon Rondon powerful striker, even better than Lukaku

Moyes bought John Stones last year in January. Didn't help us much last year, and I agree that especially competing in FA cup, etc, some reinforcements could have helped.

iI just wanted to clarify that we did do a little business last January and it looks like it was one final shrewd Moyes buy.

Regarding the second half of your statement, I think we can finish top 4 without any reinforcements. HOWEVER, I am very nervous about what our squad looks like next year if we lose Lukaku, Barry, and Deulofeu (not to mention Heitinga, Jelavic, and maybe even Hibbert, Distin, Baines and/or Pienaar). Making CL for next year could be a disaster if we can't open some purse strings and reinforce and add depth to our current squad.

So I hope we start thinking as much about next year as we do this year because if we make CL due to loans and can't even replace those loans, we will just embarrass ourselves. This year is setting up to be a special year for us, I just hope we can turn a special year into something lasting. Hopefully we can sign Barry and loan Deulofeu again. Maybe just maybe Lukaku and Jose fall out again and we either get another loan or somehow are able to sign him. who knows.

Liverpool wanted Ochoa ,Villareal as well,he knows he can be keeper for stronger teams, but opted Ajaccio, thats why he conceded so many goals, for me he is cheap,he is international and has quality ,i would not give 8m pounds for some kids from Belgium and Holland, rather for more experienced striker who knows how to score,i have also watched Rondon lots of times and he knows whats doing, fast strong clinical

No, I'm sorry, I have to strenuously disagree in terms of Rondon, he isn't a good player, plus even if he was, the official fee for Rondón was €12mio, according to Málaga's accounts, what makes you think they'd reduce their asking price for a 'top' striker. Not to be harsh, but he isn't what we need, and by all accounts, for me, wasn't that good in his sole season in primera division, you call him clinical, but i've seen the lad miss so many sitters, that i was going mad, not for me.
