I think that there were a fair few games in the second half of last season when the players just weren’t bothered….no passion and very little effort. Ancelotti was just left there shaking his head. No surprise he walked away, no manager wants to work with players that don’t give a damn.
Kissing the badge after being spanked in a game is not passion. It’s pathetic.
The majority of the first team have been doing this for several seasons.
A little bit. But I still put it down to quality. We lost games by small margins last season - 1.0s, 2.1s. The only game we got spanked was against City the last game of the season.
He got exasperated due to the players not being able to get to a level IMO. We fell away by the end but for the whole season, 10th was the lowest we ended up right at the end. 3 points from 7th. By April we had a game in hand and we're 3 points from 4th.
Overall, it's a foundation we should've built on. Would've been great to have Carlo steering that but...it's Real Madrid isn't it.
We had to either continue or rebuild. If it was a rebuild, a Potter would be your safe bet (which apparently we looked at). Or I think, try and continue which is why we got Benitez.
But he's a lying fat toad that just wanted to shaft us.
