The Half Term Report

The football is better to watch but the results are the same as last season

To play the way he wants your looking at spending another 200-250m.

Gomes, another midfielder, RB and 2 strikers.

Which is actually stunning considering over 300m has already been spent in 2 seasons.

That's enough money to build a new stadium without loans

There are good foundations in place.

I'm encouraged that the new signings have by and large been decent. Richarlison, Digne, and Gomes in particular.

We need two strikers, and Coleman's position to be addressed. Being harsh I also think we need an upgrade on Gueye in time if we are being serious about things.

That will probably take up the next two windows.

Lookman aside, and despite appearances we don't have a bench of any depth or quality.

So back to talking about multiple windows with much activity in which we can't afford any poor calls for new players.

But that's what Spurs have done so it's possible.

Got to agree with all of this.

What I would say is that the signings look the better players since they've been bought (or loaned) specifically to fit into Silva's system. I think this contrasts sharply with a lot of the lads on the bench. Not all of them are poor player but they look like round pegs in square holes on many occasions.

The key is to build over mutilple windows. Rome wasn't built in a day

You're using a previous regimes' mistakes as a stick to beat Silva with. All of Silva/Brands' signings have been good.

The season was over for me when we got beat at home by West Ham, Silva should have walked that day.
Is that the games where we had 16 shots to their 9 yet they won 3-1.
We bossed every stat in that game bar goals.
Season was never over , it just highlighted what we've known all season .....we need a goalscorer.

I'm more optimistic about Everton's future than I was this time last year, not because of Silva but because of Brands. He feels like a man that can build from the bottom up and give us a bit of direction, I'm less convinced that Silva is the man to take us to where Brands wants us long term so it'll be down to Brands to get the right man in when Silva gets found out in a few months.

The whole squad and manager have to prove themselves this season - 7th minimum (or higher with United in dissarray), playing all of the top 6 at home, the FA cup, playing teams below us away after our tough run. We've still got plenty of chances to chalk up some achievements this season and while these may not be trophies (except the FA cup), after the malaise of last year what we want to see is 100% effort from the players in every game and for us to fight for everything we can until the end of the season. It's up to Silva to ensure that is the case and whilst the early signs are promising (not withstanding a mini wobble post derby) we all know how quickly a season can evaporate into nothing, so it's up to him to keep the players motivated and get the form back on track ASAP.

I like what Silva is doing. I don't like the results.

I like the new signings and think they're on the whole better than what we had. We still have a lot of not-so-good players gunking up the works.

I was prepared to wait until 10 games of the season to question him seriously, and I cannot see him pulling any magic tricks to get us any silverware out of what he had, but given time and the correct support, which I do think he will get, then he has a fairly free pass from me to implement his style of play and get the team more proficient in performing to his style of football - I like the way he has the team set up and the defence has improved but the goal scoring hasn't.

Next season is the one. If we don't start with at least one goal scorer, a strong right wing/mid-fielder to balance out with Richarlison and a right back to do what Digne did on the left this season, then we will be floundering.

I liked the bit about performing better against the bottom 13 teams. I think it's not a bad shout at all that we should be aiming at them for a lot more points. I think the way we are approaching the top 6 teams is about right - not gung ho, but disciplined without trying to park the bus whilst trying to create chances.

A lot to like so far if you're an optimist. I hope that it all comes off. I really do.

I'm very happy. Not for where we are but instead with the signs of genuine progression.

It's good to watch Everton again. Not something I would have readily said since Roberto's first season.

I agree with this. We can see the signs of progression and we can see room for improvement. Allardyce style had produced maybe more points (only just) but did we see signs of progression on the pitch....a big NO. An Allardyce team is what it is....scrapping for points and no light at the end of the tunnel and no signs of progression in terms of style. Silva is ambitious and wants to win every game regardless who we play. We are not there as of yet but he is pointing us in the right direction. Patience is the key. Why didn't we have patience with Allardyce? because each and everyone of us knew we would just see the same style and no change in mentality

At the end of the day, we are actually playing some great football, actually having a go at even the "bigger" teams and even when we lose or draw a game... We all go home entertained and have seen 90 minutes of high paced EFFORT.

Changing style, personnel and culture so rapidly is quite an achievement!

I'm optimistic again already, and that took some doing regardless of the equivalent points stats

Coming up to the 4th transfer since selling Lukaku and he still hasn't been replaced, that has cost us at least 12 points this so far season and until we find a 20+ goal a season man we wont be cracking the top 6, we are close but need more goals simple as that.
