There is no doubt that there has been corruption at the highest level of Greek politics but the main cause of the financial problems is the Greeks pastime of evading tax which has meant the Government had to borrow loads and hid this from the other EU countries when it joined the Euro. The austerity measures being forced on the public sector are for a 15/20% pay cut, tens of thousands job losses, and a VAT increase of some 5%. The public sector are being asked to pay for a situation which was not of their makiing.
