The Fab Four

I think the fact that Walcott has gone from being by far our best attacking player last year to the worst of the front four last weekend says so much about recruitment this summer. Its almost as if we've been as successful this summer as we were unsuccessful last summer.

It would be nicer if we upgraded two of them.

Bernard and Richarlison are class. They should be tied down ultra-long-term.

Walcott is fine for a 7th place side but isnt on a par with what we need for a top 4 push.

Sigurdsson needs to be consistent in performances.

The RS had Mane, Coutinho, Salah and Firminho. Id suggest Bernard and Richarlison are the same level and were still short 2 top notch players.
Walcott literally played mainly as a starter for a top four side like 10 times. The only one in the side to do so. I know you don’t like him, but it’s getting old.

My point was a comparison to the RS, do you think hes as good as Mane or Salah?

More closer to home, is he as good as Bernard or Richarlison?

Using your own gauge of a 'top 4 player' how many games have Wes Brown and the like played for United 'back in the day'...it doesnt mean they are of sufficient quality to push a non-top 6 team into a top 4 position....which is the point of my post which you were responding to.

You said he’s not what we need for a top four push when the reality is if we fix our actual issues, he’s clearly good enough to play a major role that gets there. Sterling and Mahrez aren’t as good as Salah and Mane either. Neither are Lingard and Mata. Neither are Moura and Son. You can get top four without Salah and Mane and thank god because most teams will never find them.

Which of the players youve named is Walcott superior to?

In Lookman and still the posibility of Onyekuru and Vlasic, we might have quality strength in depth too.

Scoring a winner v Real Madrid won't have done his profile any harm if we deem him surplus.

This front 4, plus Vlasic, Onyekuru, Lookman and Dowell in reserve...or maybe DCL - is really good for the future, because you can assume Walcott & Richarlison will only have 2-3 years with us (For injury and Barcelona reasons!)

Possibly.

I would hope that we can build a side to really achieve something before Richarlison looks to possibly move on. If we want to win trophies and compete for the top 4 then we have to start to hang on to our star players. We need leaders throughout the club with a clear objective and hopefully we finally have that. The leap in quality of the Brands additions over the previous regime is remarkable though.

All of Digne, Bernard, Richarlison and Zouma have been upgrades on the previous shirt holders, with still 2 more to come in.

Pleased we have an attacking intent after so many boring games under Sam. Harsh to call Walcott out though and as stated in other threads, Lookman was miles off it Tuesday

Man City have a terrific 22. Until we get that, don't be full of self-satisfaction.

A long, long way to go. But I do like what I am starting to see.

We still need a top striker for starters & a midfield general....

But yes liking what I see, it's starting to take shape already in the Silva revolution....

Zat you are missing the whole point of the argument because you can only see Ealcott Siggy and Seamus been sold based mainly on their age and yet you would keep Kenny and Davies as well as DCL

I'm commenting on Walcotts ability and youre bringing up 5 other players with no bearing on that who dont even play in his position.

Quite a tangent.
