I mean our recruitment has been dire because we have barely any scouting and allow barely any freedom to a DoF in the role a DoF should be while completely undermining them - Kenwrong and Moshiri kept doing transfers for some reason while both Brands and Walsh (who had good reputation when he came ot us) were here. We have barely any scouts it seems, which is also a very obvious problem.
Same with Kopite Kev currently - apparently "doing bits" but unable to find ANY strikers in Europe somehow lol as he also has no idea what a scouting department is.
We have no idea how to operate as a club because the rot at the top is stuck in the days of old and that won't change until the top of the chain changes its ways, which will only happen if they are gone (and more likely in the case of Kenwright - when he dies, as he's a cancer to us) as that's what the last few years worth of "good times" show.
It's obviously not some sort of magic wand solution and it will take time to be fully implemented, not saying it's mega easy, but honestly it's not that hard either, is it? If teams all over the place can do it at least to some extent but we obviously are unable to - is it not us who are badly failing, not the method, so to say? Teams spend money on scouting/youth and it pays off in a year or two, we're spending 30m+ on Iwobi's while we play no youngsters and wondering why we're skint and about to be relegated like lol
I don't think we really know how that side of the club is run to be fair. It's not working, but it feels a bit reductive to just jump to the easy conclusion of saying we don't scout people. Obviously we all know about the likes of Iwobi, Sigurdsson and Bolasie being wastes of money as 'PL proven' players, but like i said, there are lots of players who would theoretically fit into the category we're talking about. On paper Klaasen, Sandro, Vlasic, Lookman, Nkounkou,
Branthwaite, Patterson,
Mykolenko, Garner, Onana, McNeil, Gbamin and plenty of others all fit the sort of profile we're talking about to different extents, but very few of them have actually been a success here, and a number of them haven't really gone on to show that it was just the environment here that was the issue either, it's more that we've just not got the recruitment side of it right. Again, while we've been particularly bad at it, we're far from the only ones. It's a staggeringly simple model in theory but it's not that easy to do it well, otherwise everyone would do it because like I said, it's common sense.
