Thats 4 years out of date!

Look at how Villa's position has changed in that time

*snigger*

*edit - the article is using figures from 2008 financial accounts.

At least hes spending his own money hey.

Hes loaning Villa money to be paid back by 2016 and charging interest on it, 12 mill a season. Villa have gone from 0 - over 100 mill debt in about 5 years.

So just to summerise you would prefer Learner to our board?

No wonder O'Neill walked. And some people blame him for the mess that they are in today.

you could be on a winner there , some shockingly bad performaces this season

I think ill get a run for my money mate, injuries, fans turning - fixtures: remaining are against the top 6 and those at the bottom - i would rather be playing mid table teams at the end of the season with nothing to play for. Mcleash has form as well for relying on draws to get him over the line rather then pushing for wins - it saw Brum go down last season. It would make my day if he got the sack and rhey brought in Rafael and they went down anyway.

love them to go down cant stand villa, i watched them play the red****e on tv and just couldnt believe how bad they are couldnt string two passes together, with the players in the squad they shoulnt be in trouble ,but they are
a couple of bad results and one of the bottom three putting a run together and they are right in it and i think its to late for them to sack mcleish and change it.

Villa going down... Is a real possibility and their revenues are well down this year

Remember the phrase from two and a half years ago:

At least we're not Villa!

Yes of course. At least hes willing to spend money.

So were Portsmouth and Rangers.

But ultimately its wages what have killed them (putting them in a difficult financial position; so Tax demands finished them off)

Told you. Villas lack of control on wages (cost) has put them in this position.

They are like an oil tanker struggling to turn... From an iceberg.

That mentalist Lerner actually sped up not down too.

Many years ago FIFA should have capped the wages, brought in a percentage of revinue style format. some of you accountant type blirts could probably come up with a system along those lines, players wages down season tickets less expensive = better turnstyle numbers surely

Clearly Villa are in a bad way. Also the fans have deserted, although I'd put that at Mcleish's door. I'd do the same myself if he was brought in here.

But, are they in a worse position that us???

IMO that's debateable. Clearly Matt keeps an eye on them so he will be able to answer a few of these things.

Do they own their own training ground? We do not. We pay a lease of appox £1.2m and rising over an 80 year period. This is a significant issue as land values, though depressed, are far higher in the midlands than up north.

Is Villa Park mortgaged? Goodison has, I believe, 12 separate mortgages placed on it. Again this would offer them the opportunity to raise money money if needed urgento. Not an option for us. We can't even build a new office block.

Is their turnover greater than ours? I believe they make around £12m a year above us. Obviously this will offer them greater scope to repay debt. Though I'd agree with anyone who says what Lerners up to their is an absolute scandal.

Villa's debt may well be higher than ours. Though I would guess that they also have significant assests that we do not I.e Land and Football Stadium.

We haven't got anything to fall back on whatsoever, and we have a board who are not willing to invest a bean to try and grow the club.

Villa have a much bigger, better stadium than us which is equipped for modern football and an owner who has shown he will put money in to grow the club. If everton had borrowed the same amounts we would be paying a lot more interest than the £12m Villa are paying Lerner. The fact they have mostly wasted that money should not detract from the fact they spent it.

I perosnally won't be looking down my nose at them as if the PL bubble ever bursts we're goners. we are far more dependant than any other club is this division on the Sky Moolah!!!

I know lads,

I posted it for the extract on Villa, criminal what Learner is doing, loaning money to the club then charging interest that was back in 2008 as well the debt has significantly increased.

That was always part of the deal from the get go. The money to buy Villa was taken from the family trust with interests payments and the paying back of the loan to buy the club all upfront in the prospectus. It might not be nice that the money is being clawed back, but there was nothing underhand about it....and before I started throwing stones at that glass house I'd really like to know the details behind exactly who the interest payments for the last bridging loan taken out with that BVI finance house is being pocketted by.

Cracking post mate. I think you're right to stick a spanner in the works of this triumphalism over Villa's situation. Structurally, Villa are probably in better shape going forward than a club like ours where a board led by Bill Kenwright has sold off the assets of the club one by one over the past 12 years, loaded us with tice the debt they inherited and failed to invest one penny into the club. I'd also add that Villa are indisputably the premier club in the midlands and if/when they hit any level of success again they could draw massive crowds from that part of the country in the way we couldn't if we took off given the competition from north west giants. They have a much greater potential than us, IMO.
