....or people could go through the youth thread and read his posts to save him/her the work haha
maybe martinez has gone OTT, maybe the confidence he breeds will produce it. It does seem promising imo, but they're all still young. you can have all the talent in the world, going and performing in stadiums of 40, 50 and 60+ thousand requires more than just ability though.
time will tell.
Sorry for the delay, work is very busy presently!
To answer the OP it could mean the players he currently has in the first team, or the crop developing below it. I have heard Martinez refer to McCarthy, Barkley, Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu, Garbutt, Browning, McCaleny as a youthful generation who are ready (in the main) to play first team football.
Alternatively he could be referring to our under 19's down. So Ledson, Kenny, Dowell, Walsh, Evans.
We have won the youth league twice in the last 5 or 4 years. In 2011 (I think) that youth team has produced Dier & Barkley who are now first team regulars. We also had McCaleny, Garbutt and Browning who all stand a chance of playing premier league football. So not a meagre return.
In 2014-15 we who the league and last season came runners up (losing our final game which stopped us retaining it). The nucleus of this side of much stronger than the 2011 squad when they were equivalent ages. People around the football profession were talking about the number of good players we had when they were 14-15 year olds. Even when we won the league in 2011 (I think) and in the aftermath where you expect people to talk about prospects from that team as would normally be the case, most of the chat would be about this youth age group we had who were 4 or 5 years younger.
If we use Browning (or Garbutt) as a barometer we probably have as many as 10 players who are more advanced in their development for the equivalent age. Still a long way to go but a very good starting point.
I suspect (and hope) he is talking about the golden generation who are below the first team, as I can only hope we make the most of them. Whatever anyone else thinks of Martinez, I admire his willingness to cultivate our young players and add to them with players like Holgate.
