Finally, The Doctor's new season is shown stateside on BBC America 9.00est.

Any fans been waiting for this?

Matt Smith has grown on me but David Tennant was awesome and sorely missed for me.

Amy Pond makes this newer doctor work great chemistry.

I'm a big geek of a fan since 1973 :)
Watch it all the time.

Which allows me an opportunity on GOT for this:

How many Doctor Who fans does it take to change a light-bulb?
Two.
One to change it and one to complain that it wasn't as good as the previous light-bulb!

Not a fan of BBC propaganda, can't take
BBC shows seriously!

Not watched it since Ecclestone left.....never really 'felt' Tennant as the Doctor.....

Eccelstone was so short lived. Each transformation I feel cheated in some way. Tennant stayed with the character and I thought did a good job.

On a sad note Lis Sladen (Sarah Jane) passed away last week from cancer. RIP Lis a quality actress.

RIP to Lis Sladen.

Hate the current doctor. Written like a new man, waspish wimp. It's become a colliegiate grouping rather than the Doctor leading the show. Next they'll be holding votes on which planet / time frame to go to. A serious case of miscasting for me, though I will accept that on watching repeats there are more layers to the show.

Still a fan but if he doesn't man up soon, I won't be.

Honestly the new version, for me pales to the classic stuff the new stuff is well made but soulless give me Tom Baker,Jon Pertwee etc than this, all effects and no soul for me.

Even now i'm listening to a Peter Davidson era Audio story and bloody good it is too.

And yeah terrible news about Liz Sladen

The Big Finish stuff can be excellent. Not all of it, but some are great stories. I grew up with Pertwee and Baker and though I watch this new version, it is not the same. I find the story lines geared strongly towrads the BBC's target audience, the under 12's, where once it was marketed quite clearly as a family show.

Agreed it is now aimed fairly and sqaurely at kids,no bad thing in this day and age but for me it just leaves me cold and yeah i'm of the same vintage with both doctors you mention i'm looking forward to Tom Baker's Big Finish stories when they come out, though if and how Sladen's death will effect them i wouldn't know.

To be honest i'd scoffed at the thought of listening to a story without, gasp, pictures so i took a small step last night and bought Phantasmagoria by Mark Gatiss wonderful stuff in fact i'd go as far as to say it easily as good as anything he did on tv,the wife is now hiding the credit card..

To be fair it's not always aimed at kids. Blink in the Tennant era a perfect example and there are a fair few episodes that are edgier in the current series too.

If you speak to anybody at the BBC connected to the marketing of Doctor Who, it is today a show made for the under 12's. The merchandising opportunities have been fantastic and made good revenues. The day the viewing figures drop and mechandise sales go down, the show will be dropped!
The story lines have had a very emotional back-drop which was not common with the original classic stories, where endings were often abrupt and "I hate goodbyes" philosophies.

Barry Letts often said in the 70's it is a family show. Stories like Blink have been the exception and far and few between.
Also, hardly featured the Doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
