The Deadwood

@Eggs

This is what i have

2020: Niasse / Stekelenburg / Garbutt / Baines / Sidibe / Martina

2021: Connolly / Pennington / Schneiderlin / Besic / Dowell / Walcott / Bolasie / Sandro

...Baines is an interesting one. I wouldn’t call him ‘Deadwood’ because he’s demonstrating he’s still a very useful member of the squad. As you point out, though, his contract is up. I’m not aware of a young, top quality LB coming through so we’d have to buy a back-up or offer Baines another season.

We need 3 keepers, if Stekelenburg’s contract is up then a decision will have to be made on whether one of the youngsters is rated highly enough to step up. Virginia has had a nightmare at Reading, so might be considered ‘Deadwood’.

The Walsh era (or more accurately, ‘error’) still has a little way to go.

Ancelotti has picked Sigurdsson consistently. He’s not going anywhere.

Id say it’s more down to having little choice but to play him. If the likes of Delph, GBamin & Gomes where all 100% and available to play I don’t think Sigurdsson would be getting playing time. My opinion of course.

I think Sigurdsson will be retained and that Ancelotti will find a role for him. He;s not in the deadwood pile and could certainly be more useful than Delph (injury-prone), Gomes (injury-prone and inconsistent) and Gbamin (unknown quantity)
