I always class that as my favourite De Niro movie. Although tbh Charles Grodin stole that film.
A good actor let's the focus fall on where the script is strongest and gives that performance all it needs. He was great with both kids in 'A Bronx tale', Keitel in 'Taxi driver', Pesci in 'Goodfellas', Walken 'Deer Hunter', Stallone 'Copland', Nolte 'Cape fear', DiCaprio 'This boys life'. Godfather I & II were always Pacino's, but they share the screen in 'Heat' in sublime manner. A great pro.
