....World Cup winning centre back Jack Charlton has died aged 85. Sad news.

Really sad news.

His Ireland team getting to the Euros and the World Cup was such an exciting time for the whole country. Happy memories.

Love him or loathe him you couldn't ignore him, what a great character, brought the Republic back to life and gave them good times RIP Big Jack, old Giraffe neck.

An abrasive character without doubt. I liken him to your favourite uncle who would let you have your first bottle of beer.

Back in the 1960's when I lived in Leeds, I played for a team in the Yorkshire League, Yorkshire Amateur. If Leeds United didn't have a game, two or three of the Leeds players would come to watch our game. Big Jack was one of those players. In the 1990's, big Jack was guest speaker at Maidenhead Rugby Club's sportsman's dinner. During the evening I managed to have a chat with him. I introduced myself by saying 'you wont remember me but............'
That was as far as I got as Jack said 'Yes I do, you played for Yorkshire Amateur'. Really made my day that.
True Legend was big Jack. RIP.
