....sad to hear John O’Leary has died aged 63. John is arguably the most talented amateur footballer the City of Liverpool has produced and I thought he deserved a mention here.

He didn’t look like a footballer and was the nicest and most modest man you could meet. John was a big man but he was a genius with the ball and it was a privilege for those of us who were lucky enough to share a pitch with him.

Just reading this now.
I've tried a couple of times to find out about this guy. Sunday evening I'd be listening to Merseyside for the Sunday league results. I think it was Graham Beecroft went to see a National Sunday Cup game that Fantail were playing. He said the opponents that day were none too complimentary about John and his appearance. John ripped them to pieces.
They played the final that year at Prenton Park and I went to see what the guy was like. He was brilliant. They won 1-0 with Kit Fagans scoring the goal.
A belated RIP.

Off the top of my head (honest) I'm thinking Pilling, Hayes, Hughes, Shuttleworth, Lever, Simmons, Bond, Engineer etc etc.
I loved cricket then. Now I couldn't name the England team apart from Bairstow and the guy Stokes.
Frank Hayes! forgotten him! Apropos nothing at all, wasn't Jack Bond's nickname "Flat Jack"? or have I imagined that?
