My old fella played against and with him at Otis for a couple of games,told me he was the best player he ever played on the same pitch as....sad to hear John O’Leary has died aged 63. John is arguably the most talented amateur footballer the City of Liverpool has produced and I thought he deserved a mention here.
He didn’t look like a footballer and was the nicest and most modest man you could meet. John was a big man but he was a genius with the ball and it was a privilege for those of us who were lucky enough to share a pitch with him.

Am sure my dad said they gave him a job on the brush or something just so he could play for the team...yep, I remember John working at Otis, having a few pints in the boozer opposite. He was a magical footballer but you wouldn’t know talking to him (he was 73, not 63 as I mistyped in my original post).
