My Uncle Richard (RIP) used to tell me stories of Colditz. He was a Wellington bomber pilot and ended up there after getting shot down.Really sad to read about Bernard Hepton, Secret army was a great series, along with Colditz two of my favorites TV series
Have you ever read either Pat Reid or Airey Neave's books? I reckon your Uncle might of met both of them.My Uncle Richard (RIP) used to tell me stories of Colditz. He was a Wellington bomber pilot and ended up there after getting shot down.
No, cannot say I have read those authors. My Uncle was generally a man of few words but he loved a pint (and scotch) of an evening and he'd be a lot more forthcoming with his stories. Very interesting and successful man...top London solicitor...he acted for the Beatles in their setting up Apple Records back in the late 60s. He had a few tales about that as well!Have you ever read either Pat Reid or Airey Neave's books? I reckon your Uncle might of met both of them.
My Grandad was in the RAF but he didnt like talking about the war at all
I used to go out with a lass whose dad was a Paratrooper and was involved in the D-Day assaults that included the one on Pegasus Bridge. He was a tiny little fella and when he opened up about some of the things he did/that happened, I was fascinated. Very brave men indeed.Have you ever read either Pat Reid or Airey Neave's books? Excellent in Secret Army."Welcome to Colditz" delivered by Mr Hepton, one of the greatest lines ever from TV
Remember the series well.....the best and imo most terrifying episode was the one where one of the prisoners decided to try and feign madness in order to be repatriated....sadly it worked too well and he ended up in Broadmoor...I used to go out with a lass whose dad was a Paratrooper and was involved in the D-Day assaults that included the one on Pegasus Bridge. I have just bought a book, 'turned towards the sun' which is written by a chap who was also a Colditz prisoner. Cant wait to get a spare couple of days to read it.

Do we need a 'nearly dead thread'?

Just reading this now. Whether right or wrong thread couldn't give a toss, this lady an absolutely true legend and am deeply saddened to hear of her condition.Do we need a 'nearly dead thread'?
