Shame, They were exciting times on Merseyside when Red Rum was running the national, I was a young teen at the time and everything seemed to come to a standstill when the race was on.

...the whole country came to a stand still. Happy to say the meeting has been rejuvenated and is now a magnificent 3 day festival with visitors from all over the globe. I got my tickets before Christmas as it's inevitably a sell out every year. Aintree is a much better facility than in the days Brian Fletcher was riding.

I never knew until recently that Aintree hosted the British Grand Prix formula 1.

...yep. It's a huge plot of land, parts of the old motor track is still visible. I know in relatively recent times they still raced there, if you played against Aintree Villa in the middle of the course you could hear the cars/bikes racing.
