My favourite Western, and definitely in my top 20-30 films.
I don't class it as a Western. But that's me. It's sombre, cold and sad. Eastwood went off and explored similar themes in 'million dollar baby' and 'gran torino'.
The Oscars tribute to Hackman will be notable, I wonder who gets the nod to carry it (Clint?). I hope the cause of deaths is cleared up by then and there's no nastiness hanging over it.
'All the presidents men' is on again tonight, BBC Four at 10:10pm - And there's a Redford & Bragg special on before it 9:40pm.
