“I think by the end of the game 1-1 was about right,†he said. “We had the better of the first 30 minutes and played some good football.
“We passed it well and created a couple of good chances – one for Louis and one for Tim. If we take them then we are maybe talking about a very good away performance.
“But, as it is, we go in at half-time 1-0 down and the goal was a bit fortuitous in that it took a big deflection off of Sylvain on the way in.
Of the second half penalty, he added: “It wasn’t a penalty. The referee made a big mistake and it was harsh on Sunderland.
“At first I thought it was a penalty. I was convinced from the angle I looked at it and the way Ossie ran across the man. But I have seen it since and you can only say what you see and that wasn’t a penalty kick.â€
The game was made very difficult for both sets of players with a strong swirling wind inside the Stadium of Light – not that it affected Leighton Baines’ ability to deliver perfect crosses.
“The wind was terrible, particularly in the second half,†said Moyes. “It was maybe about who made the least mistakes at that point. They had a bit more of the ball but I still felt we were good for keeping at it and trying to make goals. But the second half was ruined by the wind.â€
Moyes added: “Leighton Baines’ crossing was as good as any I have seen. The quality was unbelievable. There was one ball in particular that was just sensational.â€
Baines played some world class balls into nobody in the box. It's a mystery why we struggle to score.
