It is not my solution but surely the law as it now stands does not allow for economic migrants and they are returned to their country of origin. The clue is in your own question "illegal".

Nothing is stopping the UK government putting resource into safe passage routes, greater asylum processing, speedier court resolution for asylum claims...it just doesn't want to.

In fact, one of the pillars of Brexit, the ability to control our borders and stop illegal immigration, has made it harder because of the lack of Dublin Regs applying post Brexit.

The rest is this Government having no clue how to implement long term complex and strategic plans.

I see the latest bit of tory supporting jingoism, when challenged on this Rwanda issue, is to ask "well, what do YOU suggest we do about human trafficker's/illegal immigrants"?

Pensioners will soon be volunteering to go to Rwanda, buying spare seats on deportation flights.

It would appear that the deal with Rwanda isn't a policy were we outsource our illegal immigrants for processing but one where we swap our illegal immigrants for theirs and pay them millions for the privilege, Boris and his cronies aren't up to the job of running a country. Hopefully two by-election defeats will put the fear of God into more of his backbenchers and they will speed his demise. This Rwanda stuff is only an attempt to appeal to the racist element of his supporters and to negate the fallout from the 23rd.

Anybody arriving in the country without permission or bypassing immigration process is illegal.

Pete has no idea what on earth he's talking about. He's had it explained hundreds of times. He's either ridiculously slow to understand or he's willfully ignorant.

He's been told and shown that you don't have to settle in the first country you arrive in

He knows that you need to be physically in the UK to claim asylum

He knows that the manner in which you get to the UK is not a determinating factor in the asylum process.

He knows that people wouldn't just casually pop over the channel from France, across such dangerous routes, by gangs, without good reason.

So he's either tremendously slow or he's deliberately ignoring it...I'll let you decide which one it is.

Interestingly he has suggested that Ukrainians are "proper refugees" unlike others from, let's be honest Muslim countries, who are illegals..he has no way of knowing that, he is just speculating and saying "you don't have a plan" when the one he's suggesting is illegal and unworkable and incredibly costly..

A better plan would be to do nothing (which was the advice given to Priti Patel before she had to issue ministerial direction to Matthew Rycroft).

I dunno all the ins and outs of this but not sure Brexit can be blamed. In Portugal fuel prices are over 2EUR a litre as well. About 80 cents up on a few months ago

We can all rejoice that Governments across the World are now applying a Stealth Green Tax to force the abandonment of fossil fuel burning vehicles in favour of Green electric ones, by inflating the cost of Petrol & Diesel.

Haven’t looked it up but I thought the ER had been around 1.35 for many a year. Obvs lower now, but the post seems BS to me
