He's actually right, at least in the quoted statement. Police generally in most Western countries are overloaded with cases, under pressure to close them ASAP and not in a position to open old ones for funsies.
He just left out the fact that there are things like murders and political corruption that prosecutors get excited about when they get new evidence, since they can build careers out of those cases.

As insidious as it is, as timid and subservient the media is, I get the feeling that large swathes of the electorate don't care.
I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, but it seems like people, or at least those who vote Tory, don't mind as long as it doesn't hurt their wealth, assets, lifestyle etc. And will happily look the other way concentrate on me myself and I.
However, constitutional law is, at best, boring probably even for lawyers. The average electorate may not care because they may not care to know about it in the first place.

Drugs only becomes the problem when the working classes start taking them I've seen more cocaine snorted at the Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot and trendy nightclubs than you can count £s on Rondons contract without a hint of an arrest.
But some poor kid off a council estate gets caught with a £10 wrap of billy whizz and they charged and saddled with a criminal record. And in their world you don't get to be prime minister by lying twice. It's not a level playing field and it never has been.
I suspect they were counting their stars that the poor boy was blond and blue-eyed.
