The Tories have figured out that if you just ignore the noise and ride it out, and point-blank refuse to answer questions on it in public, no one actually has to resign or be sacked for anything. It's a dangerous precedent.

Their corruption has been laid bare time and time again throughout the pandemic, and there have been zero consequences. I genuinely believe we're in real trouble as a country.

So I think we can all agree, that some sneak has grassed him up, that the ladies have been fawning over him, that he’s just a victim of his own powerful position and that most on here are just jealous of him......move along nothing to see here.....

Labour, Tories, SNP...they are all the same, cretins.......

The Cummings affair was a real low point in political accountability. Unbelievable what he got away with.
Tell lies and move on. Out of the news cycle a week later.
I hope that future governments are a bale and willing to reset this.

Maybe I'm not old enough but I can't recall accountability ever being as absent from UK politics as it is right now. They've borrowed heavily from the Trump playbook - it doesn't matter if something bad comes out, because something else bad will come out a few days later and people will move on. Rinse and repeat.

some sneak = another tory
grassed him up = given story to the S*n
ladies have been fawning over him = one woman who he gave a job and press pass to got kissed by him
victim of his own powerful position = Johnson called him fkin useless
most on here are jealous of him = few on here are jealous of him

It's the electorate that needs to be willing and able to reset it. Governments will get away with what they're allowed to. In the last few decades though, people have allowed their political allegiance to become so ingrained (like sports fandom) that they're willing to overlook just about any wrong their own team commit. Trump still has the Republican party by the danglers and so exerts incredible influence to get impeachments and investigations into himself and his role in his attempted coup shut down, and yet a huge part of the electorate think he's some kind of messianic figure and pray for him to magically reenter office in a few weeks.

Likewise, as evidenced by slavishly moronic posters on here like Pete, in the UK we have people that have made leaving the EU such a core part of their being, that they can forgive any trespass by the government elected to 'Get Brexit Done' and deflect any blame for its failings elsewhere.

Senior politician abuses his position to "employ" his bit of fancy, pays her £15000 for a few days "work" a year, and its her fault cos he is so powerful.

Could not make it up.
£15-£20,000 a year salary to an old uni ‘friend’ that gets paid for 15-20 days work a year.
They’re all the same though. What a disgrace.
